Volleyball wraps up Ohio trip

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Albion College volleyball team wrapped up their weekend at Ohio Wesleyan, dropping a pair of tough matches. The Brits fell to Texas Lutheran in straight sets before a tough five-set loss to Heidelberg. 

Albion battled with TLU for most of the match – dropping each set by a narrow margin. Unable to find a spark offensively, Carly Frank's eight kills led the way. Payton Rice, Bri Whitfield and Kayda Herrick all finished with six kills, while Joelle Boeskool's 14 assists led Albion. 

Paige Williamson continued to shine in the back row, collecting 20 digs in the TLU contest. Senior Madison McGraw registered nine for the Brits. 

In a tough heartbreaker, the Britons lost a five set match to Heidelberg University. Albion attacked at a better percentage than the Berg, but ultimately the Student Princes came away victorious. 

Herrick's 13 kills led Albion, while Rice and Frank each chipped in with 12. The 12 kills was a new career-best for Rice. Whitfield and middle Margaret Jones totaled 11 kills. 

The freshmen duo of Molly Edmunds (25 assists) and Boeskool (24) dazzled for Albion. Williamson's 25 digs were a team-high, with Herrick (14), Boeskool (11) and McGraw (10) all recorded double-digit digs. 

Albion's home opener will be Friday night against another OAC foe – Baldwin Wallace. The game is set for 7:30 p.m. as part of a weekend tournament in Kresge.
