Women win, tennis competes at home

ALBION – In their first home matches of the fall, the Albion College men's and women's tennis teams competed against Franklin College. The women;s team earned their second straight win, a 6-1 margin, while the men's team fell to the Grizzlies, 6-1. 

Albion secured the doubles point with wins at second and third doubles. Molly Dunn and Josie Dunn grinded out a 7-6 (7-3) victory, while Lynsey Brearley and Karina Nigg made quick work of their opponents, 6-1. 

In singles action, Josie Dunn won at second singles by a 6-2, 6-3 margin. Fifth year Savannah McDonald earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at third singles, while Nigg followed with a battle in four singles, claiming a 3-6, 6-1, 10-3 win. Brearley (6-3, 6-2) and Molly Dunn (6-2, 6-0) wrapped up the Albion lineup. 

On a men's roster filled with youth, the Britons received their lone win at second singles in a gritty back and forth matchup. Freshman Alex Bears won his second straight match in singles action with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 victory. 

Both teams will travel to Manchester University this week. The men will play the Spartans on Tuesday followed by the women on Wednesday.
