Football trounces Trine, starts MIAA play 1-0

ANGOLA, Ind. – With revenge on the mind after being upset a season ago at home, the Albion College football team spoiled Trine University's Homecoming, opening conference play with a 42-14 victory.

Luke Lovell was nearly perfect, throwing 24 of 30 for 348 yards and four touchdowns. Senior wideout Dilon Denison had a career day, catching seven passes for 111 yards.

Defensively, Jayth Joseph and Orlando Daniels led Albion with nine tackles each. As a team, the Britons picked off three passes.

After a turnover and an early score by Trine, the Britons immediately responded with a 6-play, 68-yard touchdown drive. Aided by a penalty, the drive culminated in a 9-yard find to Trevor Smith to tie the score.

The Britons took the lead on their next drive, thanks to a 35-yard pass from Lovell to Dorian Armstrong to end the first, and extended the lead to 21-7 on the first drive of the second quarter. Fridley-Bell's versatility took center stage, finding the end zone with a 20-yard rush.

Trine cut the game back to a one-score contest, but on the first play of the new drive, Lovell connected with Cameron Moore for 73 yards, regaining a 14 point advantage. Lovelll added a TD with his legs and another pass – this one to Dilon Denison – lifting the visitors to a 42-14 lead at halftime.

Albion's defense held tough in the second half, holding Trine scoreless. Albion put up 504 yards of offense, limiting Trine to just 283.

Next Saturday, the Britons return to their home turf for Homecoming. Albion will host Adrian College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
