Men's wrestling takes 16th at National Duals

CEDAR FALLS, IA. – Competing against some of the best teams in the nation, the Albion College men's wrestling team took 16th overall at the NWCA National Duals. The Britons went 1-4 on the weekend, taking on four nationally ranked opponents. 

Albion 21 RIT 20

Starting the weekend off with a win, the Britons edged out the Tigers. In the first two bouts, Jeremy Sarter and Cade Odrobina picked up victories to give Albion a 6-0 lead. The next three matches went to RIT, seeing Albion trail 14-6 midway through the dual. 

Albion righted the ship with major decisions at 165 and 174, thanks to Peyton Brooks and Zak Knapp. At 184, senior Owen McDaniel grinded out an 8-7 victory with his riding time point. Albion secured the match for good when Demond Harrison won by major decision, 11-2 at 197. 

No. 2 UW-La Crosse 49 Albion 3

The top-five ranked Eagles proved to be too much for the Brits in their second match of the day. Albion's lone win came from Odrobina at 133, a 4-2 decision. 

No. 12 Coe 38 Albion 7

Taking on another tough opponent in the Kohawks, Brooks and Bernard Harrison gave Albion its two wins in the third match. Brooks won his bout at 165 by a 7-1 score, as Harrison tallied a major decision with a 9-0 win. 

No. 25 Luther 23 Albion 16

On Saturday, Albion took on its third ranked opponent of the weekend in Luther College. Koen Eberhard and Max Honiss won at their weight classes to combine for six points for the Britons. At 174, freshman Knapp earned a 4-3 victory before McDaniel picked up a major decision at 184. 

No. 21 Wabash 33 Albion 7

Rounding out the weekend, Jeremy Sarter and Gary Iobe were victorious for the Britons. Iobe's win at 184 came via the major decision. 

Next weekend, Albion will have its final tune-up before the MIAA schedule commences at the Spartan Mat Classic.
