CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — After a third-place finish at NCAA Regionals in the 165-pound bracket in February,
Peyton Brooks became Albion's fifth wrestler in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
The senior went 3-2 on the first day of competition and was one match away from competing for a chance to become the program's first All-American.
Coming in with a 15-6 record on the season, Brooks beat Nick Bell from NYU, 17-6, in his first match. However, he dropped a major decision, 14-5, to the No. 2 seeded Cooper Willis of Augsburg next.
Fighting to stay alive for the evening session, Brooks bested UW-Stevens Point's Dylan Cariveau, 17-5.
Later that night, he pinned ONU's Ben Hegler at 6:20 but ultimately fell to Johnson & Wales's Jack Richardson in a tech fall, 16-0 (2:30), that ended his season.
Brooks ended his four-year career with an overall record of 67-34.
