UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — Four Albion wrestlers have earned spots in either the consolation or semifinal rounds at NCAA Regionals hosted by John Carroll.
Peyton Brooks (165) won two matches (tech fall and pin) to advance to the semifinals where he will face UW-Whitewater's Brayden Peet the next day. If Brooks were to win, he would automatically qualify for a spot at the NCAA Championships as the top three in each weight class advance.
Cade Odrobina (133),
Jayden Lewis (157) and
Owen Turnbow (184) each find themselves in the consolation brackets of their respective weight classes after losing once.
Odrobina racked up victories against Chicago (default) and Alma (pin). Lewis lost his first match but kept himself alive by winning the next two (Olivet by decision and Adrian by major decision). Similar to Lewis, Turnbow dropped his first match but rebounded with wins over Adrian (decision) and Trine (major decision) wrestlers.
The trio in the consolation brackets would have to each place third and not lose another match in order to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Landon Johnson (125),
Koen Eberhard (141),
Austin Matheney (149),
Nolan Rowley (174),
Gary Iobe (197) and
Bode Brown (285) also competed for Albion.
Day Two of NCAA Regional action will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 28.
