Albion Men Shine With Four Podium Finishes at Adrian Futures Tournament

Gary Iobe was one of two Albion wrestlers to win individual titles at the Adrian Futures Tournament.

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Albion men's wrestling team turned in a strong day at the Adrian Futures Tournament on Saturday, highlighted by titles from Gary Iobe and Colton Turk and runner-up finishes from Race Eckles and Jackson Sage.?

At 149, first-year standout Xavier Carpentier put together a 3-2 day on his way to a third-place finish. After a first-round bye, Carpentier dominated his quarterfinal with an 8-0 major decision over Adrian's Collin Oliver before dropping a tough semifinal. He stormed back on the consolation side, earning back-to-back falls over Heidelberg's Sam Smith (1:38) and Ohio Northern's Aaron Turner (1:58) to secure a spot in the placement round.

Eckles authored one of the day's most impressive runs at 165, battling back from an opening-round loss to place second with a 5-1 record. After a bye in his first consolation bout, he rattled off four straight wins — a 6-4 decision over Adrian's Paden Gordinier, a 14-0 major decision over Chicago's Mark Lynott, a medical-forfeit victory in the consolation semifinal, and a fall over Ohio Northern's Landon Irvin in 2:12 in the third-place match — before being awarded second via no contest in the final.

Albion dominated the 197 bracket, sweeping the top three spots. Iobe went a perfect 3-0 on the day, opening with a 10-4 decision over Chicago's Sawyer Chism and then pinning teammates Wyatt Sieniarecki (1:44) and Jackson Sage (3:47) to claim the title. Sage reached the final with a 13-4 major decision over Adrian's Ben Grenesko and a first-period fall over Case Western Reserve's Nate Boyd (1:44), while Sieniarecki powered to third behind three technical falls — 22-3 over Heidelberg's Khelei Tillman, 19-3 over Grenesko, and 15-0 over Boyd.

In the upper weights, Turk capped Albion's day with a championship at 285. The junior posted a 2-0 record, grinding out a 4-1 decision over Ohio Northern's Sam Cruser in the opener before earning a 17-2 technical fall against Heidelberg's Noah Robinson.
