Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Guilford goes off in overtime victory

ALBION – Ava Guilford's clutch three and monster game led the Albion College women's basketball team to a 54-53 overtime win over Saint Mary's College. The junior buried a 3-pointer with 56 seconds on the clock in overtime to help the Britons seal the victory.

Guilford sported a packed stat line, scoring a game-high 18 points, grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out six assists. She played 43 of the 45 minutes, adding three steals and a block.

Down by two in regulation, Anja Kelley found Emma Cooke in transition for a game-tying bucket. Cooke had 14 points for the Britons, as Kelley grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds – five on the offensive glass. Knotted at 46 apiece, the Belles had an opportunity to win in regulation. Sydney Schoenborn was able to poke the ball away from the SMC player, forcing a turnover and overtime.

Albion used a pair of triples to pull ahead in the extra period, thanks to Guilford and DJ Pannell. Saint Mary's got a look at the horn, before a foul was called, awarding the Belles three free throws. With one hitting the back iron, the Britons were able to hang on for the overtime victory.

Payton Baker was tremendous in her first start of the season. Playing 40 minutes, she dropped 10 points and recorded a career-high four steals.

On Saturday, Albion heads to No. 13 Trine for a 1 p.m. tip off.
