ALBION — Winning eight of the 10 bouts, the Albion College men's wrestling team opened MIAA action with a 40-12 rout of Alma College.
Surrendering six points after this first bout,
Cade Odrobina opened the scoring for the Brits at 133. Needing just 4:30, the junior picked up a 19-3 tech fall to give the hosts five points.
Sophomore
Koen Eberhard gave Albion the lead for good. At 141, Eberhard needed just 1:29 to pin his opponent, vaulting Albion to an 11-6 advantage.
Max Honiss added five points to the Briton lead, earning an 18-3 tech fall win at 149.
At 157,
Justin Gorman grinded his way to a 4-1 decision, seeing the hosts lead 19-6 midway through the match. After a second Alma pin,
Owen Turnbow shifted the momentum right back to the Brits with the third tech fall of the night. A last-second nearfall helped Turnbow pick up the tech for a 24-12 cushion with three weights to go.
Gary Iobe pinned his opponent in 3:44 for six points at 184. Following at 197,
Owen McDaniel won by major decision, 11-1, before
CJ Krum's third period pin ended the night with a bang.
Albion continues MIAA action next Thursday at Adrian.
