Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Barden's heroics help MBB down the Dutch

ALBION – AJ Barden's putback with 0.6 seconds on the clock gave the Albion College men's basketball team a defining 76-74 victory over Hope College. In front of a packed crowd full of Kresge Krazies, the Britons put on a show, led by Dwayne Ray's 16 points.

Ray went 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. Barden came off the bench to contribute 12 points and Michael Umeh was solid with 11 points and eight boards.

Albion exploded to an early lead with the energy in the building before Hope slowly silenced the crowd. As the final seconds of the first half ticked away, Jaylen Flaniken's jumper helped Albion even the score at 33 all heading into halftime.

Despite the Brits holding a slim lead for a majority of the second half, the Flying Dutch worked to claim a 74-73 lead with 2:03 on the clock off a corner three. At the other end, the Britons split a pair of free throws to tie the game up at 74. With both teams missing their next opportunities, Hope had a chance to take the lead with 31 seconds to play.

A missed Hope layup with seven seconds to play ended with Kurtis Rhodes hauling in a big time rebound. The sophomore missed a layup at the other end, but Barden's big time rebound and putback gave the Britons the lead – and the Kresge Krazies a memorable moment.

Hope's desperation attempt at the end would result in no good look, as the Briton fans stormed the court for the exclamation point on the win.

Marco Lucchesi led Albion with five assists, as BJ Hunter dished out four.

Albion ends a three game home stretch on Saturday with a 3 p.m. tipoff against Alma.
