MARSHALL, Mich. -- The Albion men's golf program started a tradition unlike any other.
While no green jackets or Amen Corners could be found at Marshall Country Club, a new custom of winning officially commenced for the team.
The Britons won their first tournament of the fall season, as the 'A' team took the title in a field of eight teams (292 strokes) at the inaugural Marshall Masters that they hosted. Albion's 'B' squad came away with sixth place (324 strokes).
The 'A' team's score also marked the lowest 18-hole team total in any tournament this season.
Playing the par 71 course at 6,499 yards,
Nicholas Giannone led the way for the 'A' team as he tied for third and shot a season-low round of 72. Harrison and Troy Chapman (no relation), both from Wayne State, were the only two golfers in the field who finished with better scores (69 and 71, respectively).
Bradley Davis and
Blake Wagner also had outstanding performances as representatives of the 'A' squad, as they both shot a 73 to tie for sixth.
Camden Paul also found himself in the top 10 with a 74.
Vaughn Rogers was the 'B' team's best finisher, as he carded a 77 that tied him for 15th with freshman Charie Dierkes, who played on the 'A' squad.
Xander Goss notched a 78 for the 'B' team to round out the Britons who broke 80 and finished in the top 20.
Matt Sypniewski (82),
Brayden Goss (87) and
Ryan Knitter (92) were the other Albion competitors, all representing the 'B' team.
