Notre Dame, Ind. -- A fast start and a poised fourth-quarter response lifted the Albion College women's basketball team to a 69–63 road win over Hiram College on Friday night, pushing the Britons to 2–0 on the season.
Albion came out firing, putting up 25 first-quarter points behind efficient ball movement and a 57-percent mark from the floor. The Britons controlled the tempo early and led by double digits after one before taking a 41–28 advantage into halftime behind a a 16-point second quarter.
Hiram slowly chipped away in the third quarter as Albion's offense cooled, as the Terriers trimmed the Briton lead to single digits going into the final frame. Albion regrouped and delivered a composed finish, as the Brits knocked down timely shots and nailed a trio of key free throws with under two minutes to play to seal the victory.
Meghan Trewhella powered the Britons with a team-high 16 points, with a perfect 6-for-6 mark at the charity stripe. The junior added eight rebounds to round-out her statline.
Ava Guilford added 13 points to go with a team-best six assists and four rebounds.
Khaleeya Cook and
Anna Honnen rounded out Albion's double-digit scorers with 10 points apiece. Cook matched Trewhella with a team-leading eight rebounds and added three steals to frustrate Hiram, as Albion tallied 17 points off of turnovers.
As a team, Albion shot 44 percent from the floor and assisted on 18 of its 27 field goals. The Brits outrebounded the Terriers, 42–37.
