Men's Basketball Suffers First Loss of Season to Kenyon

ALBION, Mich. -- The Albion men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season to the Kenyon Owls, 82-64, in the second game of the Mike Turner College Classic.

With the loss, the Britons will face Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, November 22 at 1 p.m., who were defeated by Illinois Wesleyan in the game prior.

Albion never led in the game and was only tied once, 22-22, on a layup from Mason Brodi with 11:03 left in the first. From that point forward, the Owls made four three pointers in a row to take a 34-22 advantage less than seven minutes remaining in the stanza.

Their momentum led to a 44-38 lead at the half, which was the closest the Britons came to leading between the tie and the end of the period.

Kenyon continued their steady shooting into the second, building their lead to a 16-point advantage, 69-53, with 10:08 left.

The Britons never got within 10 points afterwards, and the Owls led by as many as 19 in the sequence.

Kurtis Rhodes had a career day, posting a career-high 23 points and his first collegiate 20-point game.

Kam Mayes and Michael Umeh also chipped in 11 points.

The key team statistic was Kenyon's 15 made three pointers to the Britons' two, including 10-for-13 in the first half.
