RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Albion College women's basketball team kept its spotless record intact on Friday evening with a 76-74 victory over Anderson University at the HOPE Classic, hosted by Earlham College.
The Britons (4-0), used a big first half to their advantage against the Ravens, as they poured in 47 points over the first two quarters. In the opening stanza alone, Albion shot a scorching 64.7% (11-for-17) from the floor with a 3-for-4 (75%) mark from deep. The contest tightened in the second half as Anderson mounted a rally in the third quarter. As Albion's hot shooting cooled in the third stanza, the Ravens took advantage with a 25-18 third quarter to pull within striking distance.
As the final quarter got underway, Anderson trimmed Albion's eight-point lead down to one with just under four minutes to play. Albion was unfazed however, and responded with a 6-2 run.
Meghan Trewhella bookended the run with a pair fo free throws and a layup, while
Ava Guilford added a lay-in to make it a 74-68 game with 1:30 left to play. Anderson continued to press, but late free throws from
Khaleeya Cook and
Payton Baker sealed the win for Albion.
Trewhella led the way for the Brits with 22 points, her fourth-straight game reaching double figures. The junior shot 50% from the field and tallied five rebounds to go along with three steals to stuff the stat sheet. Guilford added 15 points and a team-high nine boards, while Baker finished with 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. Cook and
Anna Honnen each chipped in nine points.
