Britons Clobber Comets to Remain Undefeated

ALBION, Mich. -- It was a dominant effort from the Albion College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, as the Britons kept their unbeaten streak intact with a commanding 97-63 victory over the University of Olivet.

Albion remained unbeaten at 7-0 overall and improved to 2-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play, which marked their first 2-0 start since the 2022-23 campaign. The win marked the second time this season that Albion has broken the 95-point plateau this year after the Brits downed Heidelberg University 98-32 in the season opener. The win brought Albion's scoring average to 78.7 points per game, which leads the conference.

Albion's defense was opportunistic throughout the tilt and set the tone early. Albion amassed 30 points off turnovers throughout the game as the Brits feasted on Olivet's 23 miscues. The Britons held Olivet scoreless for close to eight minutes through the opening quarter, as they scored 21 unanswered points to start the game. Anna Honnen supplied 10 points to lead the initial barrage, while the team as a whole shot a stellar 50% from deep.

With a 26-9 cushion after the first period, Albion rolled into halftime with a 43-34 lead. Meghan Trewhella racked up 13 points to lead the Britons, as the offense hummed along with a 17-for-32 (53.1%) performance from the floor.

Coming out of the halftime break, Albion kept its foot on the gas. The Britons raced out to a 30-point advantage behind a blistering 75.0% field-goal percentage in the third quarter. The final quarter saw more of the same, as Albion used an 11-point run that lasted nearly three minutes to pad its lead en route to the conference victory.

Albion's team effort saw 10 different players find the bottom of the net. A quartet of Brits finished in double figures, led by Trewhella, who scored 20 or more points for the fourth time this season with 23 points. Honnen and Khaleeya Cook each finished with 16 points, while Ava Guilford added 11 points.

Cook tallied a team-high seven assists and Payton Baker led the way on the glass with nine rebounds. On defense, Guilford racked up a career-best seven steals.
