Western equestrian crowned Regional Champions

ALBION – Regional Champions.

Over the weekend, the Albion College western equestrian team claimed Regional Champion honors following two home shows. 

Albion high point team Saturday and Anna was reserve High Point Rider

Divis started Saturday's show by winning Open Reining. Carli Kerns placed fourth in the event. I Level I Horsemanship, senior Katelyn Proshek won her section before Anastasia Kiser and Amelia Otten placed third and sixth in Ranch Riding. 

The Britons did well in all three sections of Rookie B Horsemanship. Avery Vick won the first section, as Alyssa McPherson won the second section with freshman Claire Stier taking fourth. In the final section, Abigail Nevins claimed fourth. 

Ainslie Schlagel and Madison Weedon took third and fourth in their section of Ranch Riding. Weedon later finished second in Open Horsemanship, as Divis was third in the same event. Kiser placed as the runner-up in her section of Level II Horsemanship, while Otten was second in hers as well. 

Rounding out the day, Rose Stanton and Raymundo Robles each won their sections of Beginner Horsemanship.

Starting off Sunday's show, Stellamia Aerts was the winner of Level I Horsemanship. Proshek rode to a second place finish in the other section of Level I Horsemanship. In the two sections of Ranch Riding, Albion saw Weedon take third and in the other section, Riley Long and Ella Lou Farwell take fifth and sixth. 

Kerns was crowned the winner of Open Horsemanship, while Jenna Smith and Divis placed third and fourth. Nevins finished second in the first section of Rookie B, while Paige Tschirhart was third in the other section. Stier rounded out Rookie B with a win in the final section. 

Albion did very well in Level II Horsemanship. In the first section, Ella Lou Farwell won, while Otten finished third and Riley Long placed fourth. Kiser won the second section with Schlagel taking third. Robles finished third in Beginner as well. 

In the Sunday show, Abigail Nevins qualified for Rookie B horsemanship, Claire Stier qualified for Rookie B horsemanship, and Amelia Otten qualified for level II horsemanship for the regional show. 

Albion College won the region and will be competing as a team at semi-finals in March. The Brits will take on regionals March 1.
