Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Howell's career day lifts MLAX over Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. – Caleb Howell's career-high 19 saves were key in the Albion College men's lacrosse team's 11-10 win over Carthage College. The sophomore was terrific in Albion's non-conference finale, as the Britons scored three times in the final quarter to rally.

The Britons scored the first three goals of the contest, as Andrew Miller, Luke Schuemann and Keegan Pastor all provided goals. A 9-1 Carthage squad battled back, tying the game at three by the end of the period. Throughout the second, the teams traded goals, as Albion took a 6-5 lead into the break. Schuemann on a man-up opportunity, as well as Cal Stearns and Brendan Mercier scored.

Another Mercier goal pushed the Britons ahead 7-5. The Firebirds had an answer, scoring three straight goals to take an 8-7 lead. Miller evened it up with an unassisted strike, but the Firebirds tallied one more before the end of the quarter, holding a 9-8 edge through three.

Stearns and Fabrizio Raciti gabe Albion the lead, but a talented Carthage team tied the game up once more. Schuemann, a freshman, netted the game-winner with 2:23 on the clock, as Albion's defense held tough the next Carthage possession.

Raciti ended the afternoon with four assists in addition to his goal.

On the clear, the Brits were 26 of 28 and converted 2 of 3 EMOs.

The Britons commence MIAA action on Wednesday at Hope College. Face off is set for 7 p.m.
