Baseball blows by Berg

ALBION – Slugging out 17 hits, the Albion College baseball team picked up a resounding 13-7 win over Heidelberg University. Junior Evan Schuster had a monster day, going 4 for 5 with 2 RBI and a pair of doubles.

Plating three runs in the first, Albion got back to back to back doubles from Ryker Mazey, Schuster and Austyn Stephens. Braeden Emery – who was 3 for 5 – drove in the final run of the frame with a single to left. An RBI single from Schuster and a delayed steal helped the Britons take a 5-1 lead into the third.

Sophomore Sam Archambeau finished the day 3 for 5. He smacked an RBI single the other way in the third for a 6-1 cushion. Heidelberg scored twice in the top of the fourth, but the Brits immediately responded with two runs in the home half of the inning. Schuster drove a double to left to drive in Kris Stojanovski, and Emery hit a double to left center for an 8-3 advantage.

Albion scored three in the bottom of the fifth, aided by an error by the Berg and the speed of Carson Dunn and Drew Ribble. Archambeau led off with a single and Ribble drew a walk. Dunn's bunt was a beauty, beating it out for a single, but an errant Heidelberg throw saw Archambeau and Ribble score for a 10-4 lead. Stojanovski followed with a two-bagger to left, seeing Albion take an 11-4 lead through five.

Freshman Gavin White roped an RBI triple and Archambeau followed with an opposite field single, inflating the Albion lead to 13-5 in the sixth.

Ryan Driscoll (1-1) threw five innings to earn the win. Brandon Lipson and Luke Robertson combined to strike out five hitters in relief.

The Britons slugged six doubles on the day and two triples. Three of those extra base hits came off the bat of Schuster.

Tomorrow, Albion wraps up the Olivet series with a 4 p.m. first pitch at home.
