Men's lacrosse advances to 12th straight MIAA Championship

ADRIAN, Mich. — What a difference a week makes.

After a devastating loss last week to close out the regular season, the Albion College men's lacrosse team advanced to their 12th straight MIAA Championship game with a 12-11 win at Adrian College. Senior Keegan Pastor was lights out, scoring four goals and adding an assist in the win.

The Britons held the momentum early, taking a 3-0 lead through one quarter. Pastor, Robbie Dameron and Luke Schuemann all scored in the period.

Adrian regained momentum in the second, as the teams were tied 4-4. With 19 seconds remaining in the half, sophomore Joey Pipesh found Andrew Miller for a goal, giving the Britons a 5-4 lead at halftime.

The teams continued to trade blows in the third, going into the fourth all knotted at 9-9. After Adrian took a 10-9 lead with just over 13 minutes to play, Brendan Mercier tied things up at 10, sending the momentum back to the Brits.

Schuemann scored the go-ahead goal with 5:59 to play, and the Britons got a much-needed insurance goal from Pastor less than a minute later. Schuemann scored a hat trick and Cal Stearns ended with a goal and three assists.

Freshman Connor Laidlaw won 13 of 22 face offs and picked up nine ground balls. Will Tessin's three caused turnovers were a team best.

In goal, Caleb Howell and Jack Erickson combined to make 17 saves.

Albion will host the No. 5 seed Trine on Friday for the Championship game at 3 p.m.
