Mercier leads MLAX on Senior Day

ALBION — Brendan Mercier shined on Senior Day, as the Albion College men's lacrosse team defeated Kalamazoo College, 18-11. From the jump, the Brits had complete control as they celebrated their seniors and fifth year players. 

Mercier set a new career-best, striking for four goals and five assists. Junior captain Cal Stearns added five goals, while senior Keegan Pastor and sophomore Joey Pipesh contributed hat tricks. The Britons erupted for eight goals in the second quarter to distance themselves from the Hornets for a sizable lead. 

Led by Ryan Meldrum, the Brits went 18 of 32 from the faceoff X, with Meldrum winning 14 of 25 with seven ground balls. Logan Bride caused a game-high five turnovers as freshman Carter Kildea caused three in the win. Jackson Taylor also picked up five ground balls for the Britons.

In goal, Jack Erickson made nine saves for the victory. 

Albion honored Robbie Dameron, Jack Heft, Erickson, Meldrum, Mercier, Taylor, Fabrizio Raciti, Pastor, Andrew Miller, Will Tessin, Sebastian Aheimer, James Ammons and Nathan Vesper prior to the game. 

On Wednesday, the Brits head to Trine for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
