DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Albion College volleyball team split a pair of matches to close out the NCAC/MIAA Crossover, picking up a 3-1 win over Denison University.
Match 1
Fresh off a win over Ohio Wesleyan University, the Britons carried that momentum into the matchup against Denison to start the day. Albion cruised through the first two sets before the Big Red battled back to steal the third frame.
The Britons responded to take the fourth set, 25-21.
Carly Frank floored seven of her team-high 14 kills during the stanza to push Albion ahead for good.
Margaret Jones stuffed the stat sheet for Albion with 12 kills, five blocks, four service aces, and two digs.
Kayda Herrick tallied a double-double for the third time in as many matches with 12 kills and 18 digs.
Molly Edmunds finished with a match-best 43 assists and 12 digs, while
Paige Williamson and
Camille Oxley tallied 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Match 2
Albion headed into its second match of the day looking to remain perfect to start the season, but the Britons were unable to keep pace with Wittenberg University in a four-set battle.
Albion battled back after dropping the first set to take the second frame, 25-18. The Britons hit at a solid .250 clip and floored 15 kills to edge the Tigers. A 5-0 run in the middle of the set behind Jones' service gave the Britons a 12-5 lead. Back-to-back kills from
Emma Pagliarella and
Bri Whitfield made it 20-11 and a kill from Herrick closed out the set.
Despite the set win, Albion was unable to keep pace with the Tigers, as Wittenberg took the final two sets to seal the match. Frank floored a match-best 17 kills, while Edmunds registered 31 assists and 14 digs to extend her double-double streak to three matches. Pagliarella finished with a match-high five blocks.
