Women's Basketball Crushes St. Mary's, Wins Third-Straight

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Albion College women's basketball team pushed its burgeoning winning streak to three on Saturday afternoon with a 75-56 drubbing of St. Mary's College.

With the win, Albion improved to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. The victory also pushed head coach Doreen Carden one step closer to 400 for her career, as she now sits with 396 wins. St. Mary's fell to 7-12 on the year with a 2-8 mark in the MIAA.

Albion's recent winning streak has been punctuated by a stout defense, as the Britons have held their last three opponents to under 65 points. Albion led for 36 minutes of the contest against the Belles, as the home side mustered just a 39.3% mark from the floor and a 27.2% mark from deep. The Britons' defense feasted on turnovers all afternoon, turning 20 miscues into 22 points.

While the Brits held a nine-point lead at the half-time break, a big third quarter offensively but the game out of reach. Albion poured in 22 points during the stanza and allowed just 13 from the Belles. Meghan Trewhella and Ava Guilford combined for over half of the outburst with seven and six points, respectively. With the heavy lifting done, the Brits cruised to the 19-point victory.

Trewhella and Guilford paced Albion with a pair of double-doubles. Trewhella supplied 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Guilford finished with 16 points and 10 boards. For Trewhella, it marked her second double-double of the season, while Guilford registered her third of the campaign.

Khaleeya Cook and Anna Honnen joined their teammates in double figures with identical 12-point, four-rebound, stat lines.
