CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Albion baseball team opened its 2026 season Friday afternoon, falling to Heidelberg after an early deficit proved difficult to overcome.
Heidelberg struck first in the opening inning, plating across two runs to take an early lead before Albion took to the bat.
The Britons answered in the bottom of the third as Evan Schuster delivered a double that brought home Logan DeVos, cutting the deficit to one run. Heidelberg responded in a big way in the fourth inning, however, scoring seven runs to take control of the game.
Albion continued to battle throughout the late innings. Sophomore Quinn Lewis provided stability on the mound, as he pitched five strong innings of relief to keep the Britons within reach.
The Britons began to chip away offensively in the fourth inning when freshman Max Hosler opened the frame with a single to right field, helping spark a multi-run inning. Albion added two more runs in the eighth behind hits from Schuster and Tyler Murphy before Drew Ribble came around to score on an error in the ninth.
Heidelberg finished with a narrow 12–11 advantage in hits, while both teams committed three errors on the afternoon.
