DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Albion men's lacrosse team defeated Dubuque, 16-5, from Oyen Field as part of their spring break road trip.
Facing off against former Albion assistant coach TJ Thomas, who is Dubuque's new head coach, the Britons opened the scoring in the opening period with junior Joey Pipesh scoring two goals. Senior Cal Stearns added a goal of his own and was credited with an assist. A lone Spartan goal gave Albion a 3-1 lead by the end of the period.
Albion erupted in the second with six goals, while the Dubuque offense was silent through the end of the half. Stearns netted three more goals while senior Carson Farkas scored the additional three. By the break, the Britons held a 9-1 lead.
Dubuque opened the third with a goal of their own, but Albion countered in the remaining minutes of the period with two goals, one from sophomore Mathieu Champoux and the other from Stearns.
The fourth period went steadily for the Britons, never giving the Spartans a chance for a last-minute comeback. Albion added five more goals, with sophomore Luke Schuemann, Pipesh, sophomore Logan Mozingo, freshman Pat Dyer, and junior Matthew Compton contributing to the offensive raid.
Albion outshot Dubuque 54-24, as well as dominating the face-off wins, going 17-of-23.
