AUBURNDALE, Fla. — It was a sunny ending to the Albion baseball team's Sunshine State trip.
Down 4-0 after the first inning to Gwynedd Mercy, the Britons mounted a comback — tying the game on two separate occasions before pushing through for an 8-7 victory.
The Griffins got their runs on a single, wild pitch, fielding error and fielders choice before starter
Brandon Lipson was pulled from the game.
Miles Frank then proceeded to throw five innings of relief, giving up just four hits and no runs.
Albion did not get on the board until the fifth, when
Drew Ribble singled to score
Tyler Murphy. Later in the seventh, the Britons plated two runs when
Evan Schuster reached on an error — bringing the score to one.
A
Max Holser groundout tacked on a tying run for Albion in the same frame to make it 4-4, and a
Gavin White singled allowed the Britons to take their first lead of the game.
Gwynedd Mercy knotted it up again in the home half of the seventh with an infield single, but Albion took the lead for good with a
Jack LaPorte two-RBI single and later scored on an error after he stole third.
The Griffins made it interesting with two runs of their own in the eighth — each with two outs. With two on and nobody out in the ninth,
Ian Balint sealed the win for Albion after forcing a popout and a double play in the final two at bats.
Balint earned the victory after pitching four innings once Frank left the game. LaPorte led the way with three hits for the Britons.
