KENTWOOD, Mich. — The Albion baseball team completed a series sweep against Grace Christian on Saturday, winning both ends of the doubleheader, 7-2 and 9-0.
Senior Zak Kelly started the first game, turning in a solid performance with six innings pitched and four strikeouts.
Grace Christian kicked off the scoring with runs in the second and third, but the Britons responded by compiling all seven of their runs in the sixth. Albion saw big swings from Drew Ribble, who drove in two, and Jack LaPorte, who homered. A dropped fly ball brought in three runs for the Britons as well.
Sophomore Miles Frank earned the save, pitching three innings and allowing just a single hit to close out the first win of the day for Albion.
Junior Brendan Schultz took the mound for the second game, pitching all seven innings with nine strikeouts and just three hits allowed in the shutout win.
Carter Stahl's single to left in the first inning brought in the first run for Albion. Brendan Welch homered in the second, and Gavin White also singled to bring in a run.
The Briton bats were alive again in the fifth, highlighted by a big three-run home run from Evan Schuster. Grace Christian continued to struggle offensively, finishing with only three hits as a team in the second game.
LaPorte singled again in the seventh to add a run for the Britons, and an infield error off the bat of Max Holser resulted in two more. Albion comfortably took care of business to secure the shutout victory.
