ALBION, Mich. — In a battle for the No. 3 seed in the MIAA Tournament, the Albion men's lacrosse team shut down Trine, 13-4.
The Britons' sticky defense gave up their fewest goals all season to a Thunder team who coming into the game had the league's No. 2 scoring offense.
In a rematch from last season's MIAA Championship game, Trine scored the first goal early but it was all Albion from there.
Joey Pipesh found twine with 5:49 left in the first to give the Britons their first goal followed by a
Caden Ferich score one minute later.
Cal Stearns tacked on another Albion goal to give them a 3-1 lead at the end of the first.
Mathieu Champoux and
Luke Schuemann added to their season totals in the second to make it 5-1. With 9:27 left, a 45-minute lighting delay began before Schuemann's goal.
Trine scored with 1:59 left in the half, but Schuemann answered right back just over a minute later to stamp a 6-2 advantage heading into the locker room.
Pipesh scored the Britons' first goal of the third. The Thunder notched a score with 4:51 left, but Schuemann and Stearns snuffed out any of Trine's momentum to make it 9-3 at the end of the third.
Stearns and Champoux each found twine twice in the fourth.
Caleb Howell was outstanding in net, as he racked up a season-high 15 saves. Stearns had four goals, equaling his total scored against the Thunder in the 2025 MIAA Championship game. Champoux and Schuemann each had three as well.
The defense picked up 32 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers. Additionally, no penalities were called in the game.
