Box Score The Albion College men's soccer team displayed a gutsy performance Saturday afternoon as they defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College 2-1. After leading 1-0 at halftime, the Britons came out in the second half a bit slow, allowing Kalamazoo to capitalize on a chance about 20 minutes into the second half.
Albion upped their level of intensity after the Kalamazoo goal, as Charlie Micunek (Granger, Ind./Penn) scored his second game-winning goal of the week in the 77th minute of the match. Micunek was assisted by Josh Duel (Dowagiac/Dowagiac)on the play, by heading a corner kick back across for a tap in.
Albion's first half goal was slotted away by Kyle Alsheskie (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) due to Tom Dickmann's (Battle Creek/Lakeview) crafty flick-on that isolated Alsheskie one-on-one with a defender. Alsheskie went on to get past the keeper and place the ball into the side netting for his fifth goal of the season.
The big win for the Britons moves them to 5-6 in the MIAA and keeps them in contention for the MIAA conference tournament, which displays the top four teams in the league table. The Britons currently sit in fifth place.
The Britons will travel to Grand Rapids this Tuesday, October 25th as they look to gain revenge of their previous game with Calvin College, the top team in the MIAA. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
