Box Score On one of the coldest nights to hit Albion in the past few weeks the shooting inside of Kresge Gymnasium was equally as cold in a defensive tilt between Albion College and Carthage College.
The Britons were manhandled on the boards and shot just 32 percent from the field en route to a 51-43 loss to the Carthage Red Men. Junior forward Mike Smith led Albion with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Albion led 9-6 at the 13:49 mark of the first half, but Carthage went on a 17-9 run over the next 8:13 and took a 25-22 lead into halftime. The Britons were able to hang tough with the Red Men until roughly three minutes into the second half when Carthage sparked a 15-4 run and took a 42-28 lead.
It was not until a three-pointer from first year guard Zach Hurth cut the lead to eight points with 2:07 remaining that the Britons had a chance to make a run at the Red Men. Smith followed up Hurth's three with a steal and a thunderous dunk in the open floor to cut the lead to six points just seconds later.
Senior guard Luke Walker made two of three free throw attempts with 15 seconds remaining in the game, but the Britons failed to get another chance to cut into the Carthage lead. Walker finished the game with seven points, an assist, and one rebound.
Junior forward Kolin Kazen chipped in seven points and seven rebounds.
The loss drops the Britons to 3-3 overall this season and will have no time to dwell on the defeat with Denison University coming to town tomorrow. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. ET time. Zach Dirlam '13 will be covering the live audio and video broadcasts.
