Box Score Albion College scored its most lopsided home victory since 2009 Friday as it overwhelmed Marian (Wis.) University, 3-0, in non-league men's soccer action. Matt Woster (Canton/Salem) buried a nifty pass from Stephen Foster (Livonia/Churchill) in the first half and Jimmy Nieman (Rochester Hills/Rochester Adams) and Denny O'Dowd (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) added second half tallies.
Playing under hazy, hot, and humid conditions, Albion substituted liberally and there was little difference in the quality of play. "We played a lot of players and the defensive intensity was impressive," Albion Coach Jerry Block said. "We forced them to play quicker than they're used to. From that, we capitalized on our chances. It seemed like we got better when we subbed guys. It's a great problem to have where we're a deep team."
Albion finished with a 17-2 advantage in shots. Kyle Alsheskie (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) placed three shots on goal. Woster and Kurt Miller (Ann Arbor/Dexter) finished with two shots apiece.
Goalkeepers Brian Greathouse (Dearborn) and Justin Fragnoli (Troy/Country Day) shared the shutout.
