Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Albion College solved Manchester College's 4-4-2 alignment late in the second half and first-year forward Kyle Alsheskie (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) cashed in with his first collegiate goal as the Britons scored a 2-1 victory over the Spartans in the non-league contest. It was Albion's third consecutive victory to start the season.
Alsheskie's goal came with less and three minutes left in regulation and just minutes after he was inserted into the lineup for Ellis Whitt (Bourborn, Ind./Bremen). Alsheskie's classmate, defender Grant Juth (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern), dished out the assist on the game-winning play.
Albion took the early lead in the seventh minute. Ben Lightner (Northville) dribbled the ball to the side of the penalty box and was taken down from behind. Denny O'Dowd (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) placed his second penalty kick of the season in the net.
Albion had opportunities to extend the lead in the closing minutes of the first half, but a shot by Josh Deuel (Dowagiac) traveled wide of the goal, and Manchester goalie Grant Noakes made diving stops by drives byMichael Tolkacz (Novi/Detroit Catholic Central) and Whitt.
Manchester pressed for the equalizer at the onset of the second half and the Spartans were rewarded with Lucas Shelly scored 7 ½ minutes in. It was the first goal Albion has surrendered this season. Briton goalieBrian Greathouse (Dearborn) made two saves and his season goals against average stands at 0.35 after 258 ½ minutes of action.
Albion finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots. Six of the shots were place on goal.
Albion will play for local bragging rights Saturday when it travels to Spring Arbor University.
