Third Quarter Scoring Lifts Albion Past Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Stephen Treppa (Clinton Township/L'Anse Creuse) and Tim Urso (Novi/Detroit Catholic Central) each produced a goal and an assist to lead Albion College on a scoring binge over a 3 ½ minute span of the third quarter as the Britons went on to score a 17-8 victory over Thiel College in its first men's lacrosse contest of the 2012 season.

Francis Ahia's third goal of the contest tied the score at 7-7 with 10:24 remaining in the third quarter.

Albion scored six times late in the third as it built a 13-7 lead and never looked back. Urso assisted on Tyler Kilpatrick's (Rochester Hills/Rochester Adams) second goal of the contest with six minutes left in the quarter and Urso tacked on an unassisted goal 25 seconds later. Treppa figured in Albion's next two scores, assisting on Gerard Battersby's (Farmington Hills/Farmington) tally and adding an unassisted goal. Joel Hedemark (Chesterfield/L'Anse Creuse North) and Battersby completed Albion's scoring in the third.

Treppa was Albion's man of the match, finishing the night with five goals, an assist, and five groundballs. Urso fired 14 shots and he was rewarded with four goals and two assists. Battersby ripped 10 shots and finished with three goals and an assist. Kilpatrick also contributed three goals. Hedemark and Joe Braley (Davison) produced a goal apiece.

The Albion defense pounced on 56 groundballs with Alexander Dziewit (Clarkston) leading the way with eight.

Albion continues its weekend trip to Pennsylvania with a Saturday match against LaRoche College.
