Box Score OBERLIN, Ohio – Albion College used an impressive third quarter to tie the score and it scored two goals a minute apart early in the fourth to walk off the field at Oberlin College with a 6-5 victory in non-league men's lacrosse action.
Oberlin scored three times on 13 shots in the second quarter as it built a 4-1 halftime lead.
Albion reversed the field in the third and it finished the quarter with an 11-2 margin in shots. The Britons wrestled control from the opening faceoff as Jamie Kehoe (Clinton Township/De La Salle) scored 22 seconds into the quarter. Tyler Kilpatrick (Rochester Hills/Rochester Adams) and Mitch Loney (Commerce Township/Walled Lake Northern) added goals as Albion tied the score 2 ½ minutes into the second half.
Tim Urso (Novi/Detroit Catholic Central) and Joel Hedemark (Chesterfield/L'Anse Creuse North) scored a minute apart in the fourth as Albion gained a 6-4 lead.
Oberlin scored with seven minutes remaining to cut Albion's lead to a goal, and the Britons had to survive a man down situation as a player went to the penalty box in the final two minutes.
The Albion defense finished with 33 groundballs and 14 clears and goalie Ian Monkman (Pleasant Ridge/University of Detroit Jesuit) collected 12 saves. Gerard Battersby (Farmington Hills/Farmington) pounced on seven groundballs, and Loney collected five.
Albion, 3-2 overall, will challenge Augustana (Ill.) College in its home opener. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday on the Schmidt-Fraser Field inside Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.
