ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Albion College hitters left the field frustrated Friday after collecting five hits in 1-0 and 2-0 losses to Concordia University in non-league softball action.
Erin Giannotta, the Britons' senior pitcher from Saint Clair Shores, threw all 12 innings and she struck out four in both games. Her only mistake in game one was yielding a one-out triple to Catherine Herriman which plated pinch-runner Heather Jarka in the fourth inning. An error on a sacrifice helped Concordia produce both of its runs in the first inning of game two.
Kara Wandrie (Clarkston) produced two singles and two Concordia errors allowed additional baserunners. The Britons stranded runners on first and second in the first and they had the tying run on second in the seventh.
Jessica Koehler (Ida/Marine City West) collected two singles and the Britons drew three walks in game two. Alyssa Castillo (Hamilton) drew a walk to leadoff the fourth, but she was stranded at third base. Albion failed to score in the sixth despite getting a pair of runners on base.
Albion will play its next three doubleheaders at home, starting with a March 28 date with Madonna University. The homestand includes a March 31 twinbill with local rival Spring Arbor University and a April 5 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader with Adrian College.
