Cannon Collects Three Hits in Softball Games

ALBION, Mich. – Madonna University hitters went 27-of-64 as it overpowered Albion College 10-5 and 12-0 in five innings in a non-league softball doubleheader at Dempsey Field.

Samantha Kolling (Monclova, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) delivered her third homerun of the season to forge a 1-1 tie after an inning in game one. Gina Sykes slammed a grand slam in the third inning and Madonna never trailed the rest of the day.

Claire Cannton (Clinton Township/Chippewa Valley) was Albion's leading hitter with three singles. Kolling and Alyssa Castillo (Hamilton) finished the day with two hits each, and Sophie Nielsen (Niles) hit a double to the fence in right field in game two.

Albion returns to Dempsey Field at 1 p.m. Saturday for a non-league doubleheader against Spring Arbor University.
