Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – While the scoreboard showed a 6-2 loss to the University of Mount Union Monday, Albion College will look at the contest as one that got away. Albion held a 2-0 lead after five innings, but Mount Union's hitters made adjustments and it took advantage of defensive miscues by the Britons.
Albion loaded the bases in the first as Samantha Kolling (Monclova, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) and Claire Cannon (Clinton Township/Chippewa Valley) drew walks and Alyssa Castillo (Hamilton) laced a single down the left field line. The Britons came away empty in the first, but it plated runs in the second and third innings. Kara Wandrie (Clarkston) and Jessica Koehler (Ira/Marine City) produced the RBI hits.
Kaitlyn Downey (Macomb/Dakota) threw four no-hit innings, but the Mount Union batters started to take better swings in the fifth. The Purple Raiders collected a pair of singles in the fifth, and they rapped five more in the sixth.
All-America pitcher Hayley Feindel struck out 15 to lead the United States Coast Guard Academy to a 3-0 win over Albion. Wandrie and Kolling produced Albion's only hits, both singles. Erin Giannotta (St. Clair Shores/Regina) gave Albion a chance by scattering five hits and three walks. Only one of the runs Giannotta allowed was earned.
Albion will enjoy a break from competition Tuesday. It returns to the Osceola County Softball Complex Wednesday morning for games against Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College and Thomas More (Ky.) College.
