Box Score 2 Albion College went scoreless for 12 innings Wednesday, and it was too late by the time it scored in the sixth inning of its second game of the day. Albion managed three hits in a 7-0 loss to Baldwin-Wallace College and its furious rally fell short in an 8-4 setback to Thomas More College. Alyssa Tropea, a senior outfielder from Bloomfield Hills, collected four hits on the day and Samantha Kolling, a senior third base player from Monclova, Ohio, rapped a hit in both games.
Tabitha Murray, the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year from Baldwin-Wallace, kept Albion hitless for the first three innings. Kolling drove a double to the fence in left-center to leadoff the fourth inning and Alyssa Castillo, the senior shortstop from Hamilton, reached on an error to place two runners on base. The rally fizzled, however, as Kolling was forced out at third base and the next two batters struck out.
Tropea hit a one-out double in the fifth and Castillo collected a one-out single in the sixth.
Brittany Wegman clubbed a two-run homerun over the fence in left-center in the bottom of the first to boost Thomas More to a 2-0 lead. The Saints led 6-0 after four innings, but Albion did not go down quietly as it plated three runs in the sixth. Stefana Russo, a sophomore from Livonia who got the start in center field, and Kaitlyn Downey, a sophomore from Macomb who started at first base, each drove in a run.
Albion also scored in the seventh as Kolling placed a single through the left side of the infield.
