Box Score ALBION, Mich. - Albion College Coach Eric Scott said job No. 1 for his program is having the ability to compete against its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals. With the result was a 3-0 loss to 16th-ranked Calvin, the Britons definitely showed the ability to compete with one of the top teams in the league.
Scott his team "held down the fort for 75 minutes" but the Knights' ability to move off the ball proved to be the difference. Paige Capel scored a pair of second-half goals for Calvin and Taylor TenHarmsel buried a penalty kick.
The score, however, did not reflect the work put in by Albion goalkeeper Mackenzie Hurlburt and her defenders. Hurlburt stopped 13 of the 16 shots she faced.
"We did a good job of matching up our back line with their forwards," Scott said. "Being able to compete with our MIAA rivals is job No. 1. This was a good response from our last game."
Albion had a scoring chance early in the second half, but Morgan Button pushed her shot left of the goal. Kayla Pauquette was also credited with a shot.
Albion travels to Indiana Saturday for a match against Saint Mary's College.
