DECATUR, Ill. - Haley Gitre collected 67 digs Friday night as Albion College started the Linda Slagell Dig For The Cure Tournament with losses to Millikin University and Loras College.

Millikin held off Albion, 26-24, in the first set and it went on to sweep the match by winning the second and third sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-14, respectively. Albion hit .244 with 11 kills in the first set, but it managed just 12 kills in the final two sets. First-year outside hitter Lauren Outwater led the offense with 11 kills. Stephanie Thurner served up three of the Britons' six aces and she contributed a pair of block assists.

Gitre colected 46 digs in Albion's five-set loss to Loras. The Britons won the second and third sets to forge a 2-1 lead, but they were unable to close out the match. Loras won by scores of 25-12, 22-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-11. Halle Thom and Outwater reached double figures in kills with 15 and 14, respectively. Ami Milligan dished out 22 assists.

Albion's Saturday schedule in the Slagell Tournament includes matches against TRansylvania and Dubuque.
