Genord's OT Goal Lifts Albion Past Augustana

Box Score

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Albion College men's lacrosse team's five-hour drive back from Augustana College Sunday night was made more pleasant as Dan Genord scored with 2 ½ minutes remaining in the third overtime period to lift the Britons to an 8-7 victory in the non-league contest.

Genord scored three goals in the contest. The first gave Albion a spark after falling behind 3-1 early in the second quarter. His second tied the score at five with five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Albion trailed 5-3 late in the second, but Daniel Kaminski trimmed the deficit on an unassisted goal with 19 seconds left in the first half.

After Genord's tally tied the score in the third, the teams traded goals in the fourth. Tim Urso scored unassisted goals in the period, the second with 11 seconds left forced overtime. Urso finished the contest with three goals.

Albion goalkeeper Kyle Formanczyk faced only one shot in the three overtime periods. Augustana goalkeeper Cody Burgdorff finished with 19 saves, including one in each overtime period.

One of the keys to the Albion victory was its ability to kill penalties. Augustana scored once on seven extra-man opportunities.

Albion Coach Jake DeCola singled out Carl Pressprich as the defensive star of the game. He caused six turnovers and gobbled up five ground balls.

Albion, now 4-3 on the year, will play at home against DePauw University Wednesday night. The faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
