Albion Keeps Pace With MIAA Leaders

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. - Cameron Braun scored four goals and an assist, Tim Urso produced three goals and two assists, and Jamie Kehoe, Tyler Kilpatrick and Mitch Loney tacked on three goals apiece as Albion College rolled to a 22-1 win over Calvin College Wednesday afternoon at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

Albion improved to 2-0 against its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals. The Britons have nearly a week off before playing host to Trine University April 16.

"We still feel like we have a lot of work to do to stay (near the top of the MIAA standings)," Albion Coach Jake DeCola said. "We feel good about where we are in terms of our effort."

Albion scored the first 18 goals of the contest. Joel Hedemark scored 5 1/2 minutes into the first quarter and he assisted on Kilpatrick's tally. Kehoe won the face-off and scored five seconds after Kilpatrick's goal and the rout was on.

Urso did all of his scoring in the second quarter as Albion held a 16-0 halftime lead.

"We did a good job of taking care of the ball, keeping it on the offensive side of the field, and that gave our guys an opportunity to turn those into more goals."

Albion worked on refining its ride in the second half and that allowed Calvin to score in the third quarter. Goalkeeper Kyle Formanczyk tripped while trying to get back to the cage and Jonathon VanderLaan took advantage of the empty net.
