Box Score 1 KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Albion College took advantage of a pair of walks and an error to rally for five runs in the sixth inning of game one, but the uprising came up short in an 8-7 loss to Kalamazoo College in the first game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader.
Kalamazoo completed the sweep by sending the Britons to a 13-1 loss in five innings in the nightcap.
Trailing 8-2, Nicole Romain and Michelle Norgren started the sixth inning with back-to-back walks. After a ground out, Mackenzie Sanford singled to load the bases. Norgren scored on a passed ball, and Bethann Hammond hit a RBI single and Danielle Brenner drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Two more runs scored as the Kalamazoo committed a fielding error and a pair of wild pitches.
Albion left the tying run on third base in the sixth and it had the tying run aboard on a one out single in the seventh.
Norgren delivered a RBI single in the first and Jessica Koehler produced a RBI single in the fifth.
Romain produced the game two RBI with a fourth-inning ground out. Koehler opened the inning with a double. Norgren had Albion's other hit in the game.
Albion has three more doubleheaders against MIAA rivals scheduled this week. The action begins at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when the Britons host Olivet College at Dempsey Field.
