Box Score 1 ALBION, Mich. – Leading Olivet College 5-3 in the seventh inning, Albion College was a strike away from earning its first win on the softball diamond Tuesday afternoon. Boosted by a two-run double by Ciara Santos and a two-run homerun by Terri Hurosky, the Comets stunned the Britons 7-5 in the first game of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader. Olivet completed the sweep with a 17-3 victory in the nightcap.
A leadoff walk by Jessica Koehler and a throwing error paved the way for Albion to score three times in the first inning of game one. Michelle Norgren drove in a run on a ground out and Kacey Anderson and Mackenzie Sanford hit bloop singles to drive in runs.
Anderson produced a single up the middle to plate two more runs as Albion extended the lead to 5-0 in the second inning.
Albion's bats went silent as Olivet pitcher Jessica Duell retired nine in a row at one point. She finished the game allowing six hits and four walks.
Albion pitcher Sarah Bucholz yielded 10 hits and a walk. Only two of the runs to score were earned.
Anderson, Bucholz, and Sanford drove in runs in game two.
Albion continues league play Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader at Trine University.
