Nelson Makes Statement

HOLLAND, Mich. – Kristin Nelson made her closing statement of why she should be selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Most Valuable Field Performer Friday when she won her second individual event title of the league championship meet.

A senior from Iron Mountain, Nelson sailed 36' 2" to win the triple jump. She added the triple jump to the long jump title she claimed on Thursday. Rhiki Swinton established a personal record to finish fourth in the triple jump.

Nelson also finished third with a school-record performance in the 100-meter hurdles to close the meet by scoring 26 of Albion's 61 ½ points in the meet. Albion finished fourth in the team standings.

Amanda Weaver, who was the first to finish the 10,000-meter run on Thursday, added a fifth-place performance in the 5,000 meters Friday. Teammate Amanda Miley was the seventh runner to cross the finish line.

Ashley Miracle and Lizzie Tuma also ran in the finals of their respective events. Miracle was sixth in the 800 meters, and Tuma was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles. Victoria Sochor earned a sixth-place finish in the steeplechase.

In all, the women achieved 11 personal record performances in the meet.
