Box Score ALBION, Mich. - Albion and Alma engaged in long rallies during their Friday night Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association volleyball contest, but Albion was unable to terminate enough points in a 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 loss.
The Britons finished the night with 118 attacks, but only 20 ended in kills. Halle Thom scored a team-high seven kills, and Caitlin McClorey added five.
Blocking was Albion's best weapon. Jalyn Ingalls led all players with six blocks (three solo and three assists). Kristin Yeager added a pair of block assists.
Albion never led in the first set as Alma scored six of the first seven points. The Britons rallied to score four consecutive points to trim the deficit to 7-6. Albion also trailed by a point at 9-8, 11-10, and 12-11. An Albion service error opened the door for Alma to rip off five points in a row to take the set.
Albion took an early 4-1 lead in the second set as Alma committed a pair of hitting errors and Ingalls scored a kill. The Scots continued to misfire as a bad set and an attack error pushed the Albion lead to 8-3. Alma was able to score multiple points on its serve, and the Scots eventually took a 16-15 lead with a three-point spurt. Lea Klooster served two aces during an eight-point run as the Scots pulled away.
Alma scored the first five points of the third set and never trailed.
Elisa Hobbs cracked eight of Alma's 37 kills in the match. Mary Dulzo, Sasha Laykova and Klooster all served two aces for the Scots.
Albion continues its MIAA schedule Saturday with a match at Alma College.
