Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Albion College was unable to hold a two-point lead late in the first set and it went on to lose a three-set match against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College. Adrian swept the match by scores of 26-24, 25-14, 25-19.
Jessica Konieczny spiked a pair of kills and added a block with Kristen Yeager to help Albion rip off a four-point run and build a 23-21 lead in the first set. Adrian scored five of the final six points to rally to take the set.
Lauren Outwater knocked down a pair of kills as Albion forged a 5-3 lead early in the second set. Hitting errors on three consecutive points helped Adrian score five in a row and extend the margin to 18-11.
Erin Romph served an ace and Thurner and Outwater scored kills to power Albion to a 6-3 lead in the third set. Another Thurner kill gave Albion a 7-4 lead. Adrian ripped off a five-point run to claim a 13-11 lead. Albion stayed within striking distance, trailing 20-19, until Adrian finished the match by scoring the last five points.
Adrian's Jordan Brisson spiked nine kills to lead all players. She also contributed at the net with three block assists. Linnea Berriman produced eight kills and six blocks.
Thurner and Outwater finished with eight kills apiece for Albion.
Albion travels to Holland, Mich., Friday for its second match of the year against Hope College.
