KENOSHA, Wis. – Parker Belmore, Derek Bosko and Sebastian Tostado helped Albion College win the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays, and all three added wins in individual events as the Britons turned in another excellent performance in the Carthage College Winter Classic.
Belmore, Landon Lefler, Tostado and Bosko finished the medley relay in 1:34.87 for a nearly two-second margin of victory over Carthage. Albion dominated the freestyle relay as its time of 3:05.66 was five seconds better than Carthage. David Alday swam the second leg of the freestyle relay.
Bosko collected 45 points toward Albion's team score by sprinting to victory in the 50 free (21.01 seconds) and finishing second to Tostado in the 200 free. Tostado's winning time of 1:41.40 in the 200 was two-tenths of a second off the school-record time he set Thursday and Bosko touched the wall in 1:43.83. Alday finished fourth in the 200, completing his race in 1:46.96.
"Derek is becoming one of the elite sprint freestyle swimmers in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said. "It's very encouraging freestyle relay for where we want to be at the end of the year."
Tostado added a fourth place finish in the 50 free, with Belmore finishing sixth and Alday coming in seventh.
Belmore's win came in the 100 backstroke, where he matched his preliminary time of 52.55 seconds. Charlie Shinske was seventh in that race.
Albion also received a first-place finish by Blake Blair. He had what the team called "a huge swim" of 4:46.47 in the preliminary, and did even better in the evening final with a time of 4:46.34.
"Blake does the little things well," Taber said. "He gives me everything I ask for. It was great to see a breakthrough swim this morning. I think his best event is tomorrow in the mile."
In other Friday championship races:
Lefler and Lucas Harder finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke, Tom Martin was seventh in the 200 butterfly, and Kyle Harvey was seventh in the 400 IM.
Albion is third in the team standings with 625 points. The Britons trail second-place Lake Forest College by 15 points. Carthage leads with 970 points.
