Slow Start Proves Costly

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin College scored the first five goals of the contest, and though the teams matched goal-for-goal for the final 45 minutes, the early lead held up as the Knights handed Albion College a 15-11 setback in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse contest.

Calvin led 9-3 at halftime, but the margin was trimmed to 12-9 when Kadie Koolwick scored her fourth goal of the contest with 6 ½ minutes to play. Calvin never surrendered the lead as Michelle Holwerda and Audrey Grabowski scored in a span of 1:42.

"Kadie and Isabel Fontana deserve a lot of credit for taking over today," Albion Head Coach Shatna Loecker said. "We were slow to ground balls all game, and the two of them never stopped working hard. They really stepped up when they needed to and kept us in the game that second half."

Sisters Alyssa and Ashley Glenn scored two goals apiece for Albion.

Albion, 6-6 overall and 3-2 against MIAA rivals, will play three times during the final week of the regular season. The Britons have a Tuesday night home date against Kalamazoo College.
