ALBION, Mich. – Julia Anderson clubbed her first collegiate home run – a two-run shot to straightaway center field in the first inning – and Sarah Bucholz pitched a four-hit shutout for her first collegiate victory as Albion College achieved its first victory over a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival since 2012 with a 4-0 victory over Kalamazoo College in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

Albion had to settle for a split, however, as it managed singles by Kaitlyn Downey and Bucholz in a 4-0 loss in the nightcap.

Albion scored three times in the first inning of game one. Erica Wagner singled to start the frame and she scored on Anderson's blast. Downey followed with a single and she wound up on a second base on an error in the outfield. Downey crossed the plate when Alex Yaw hit a one-out single.

The Britons added a run in the third as Alice Garvin produced her second hit of the season, a single to score Bucholz.

Kalamazoo had scoring chances against Bucholz. The Hornets stranded a runner at third base in the fourth and the first two batters in the seventh reached base. Bucholz allowed one walk and the Briton defense was solid with one error.

Kalamazoo scored three times in the fifth to pull away for the game two win. Dana Page with a two-run triple.

Albion, 2-15 overall and 1-5 against league rivals, has nearly a week off before a April 15 doubleheader at Olivet College.
