Incomplete Passes Sink Albon Men's Soccer

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College Coach Jerry Block said the tactics his team had been working on in training didn't carry over to the field Friday as the Britons suffered a 2-0 setback to Heidelberg University.

Albion was unable to connect passes out of the midfield and that gave Heidelberg a whopping edge in possession.

"I thought we looked really good defensively, but our first pass out of transition was poor," Block said. "That forced us to keep defending.

"Our movement off the ball wasn't as sharp as we would like it to be," Block added. "Our first pass out of pressure wasn't crisp. Chalk it down to being a tough day on the ball and I'm looking forward to seeing the guys perform tomorrow against Augustana. I know they have a lot more in them and I know they are going to be hungry."

Hamid Shariff struck twice in a 10 ½ minute span in the first half. Shariff's bid at a hat trick was denied when Briton goalkeeper Andrew Bobowkski stopped a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.

Bobowski stood up to the pressure, finishing the day with 10 saves.

Kyle Alsheskie and Andrew Prince led the Albion offense with two shots apiece.

Albion and Augustana are scheduled for a 4 o'clock kickoff Saturday at Alumni Field.
